quickutilities – Dolby has officially introduced Dolby Vision 2 at IFA 2025. Marking a major leap forward in high dynamic range (HDR) technology. With this update, the company aims to fix long-standing issues while adding innovative features powered by artificial intelligence. Dolby designed the second generation of its HDR standard to improve overall picture performance in movies, sports, and especially gaming—where previous implementations have received mixed reviews.

A key feature in Dolby Vision 2 is the new Content Intelligence suite. Which uses AI algorithms to analyze content type and viewing conditions. The suite introduces three major tools. Precision Black addresses common user complaints about overly dark scenes by enhancing detail without sacrificing artistic intent. Light Sense optimizes brightness and contrast based on ambient lighting and source metadata. Meanwhile, Sports and Gaming Optimization fine-tunes white balance and motion for fast-paced content, offering smoother. More natural visuals in live broadcasts and gameplay.

Dolby also overhauled tone-mapping with a bi-directional algorithm, allowing TVs to better preserve creator intent while boosting brightness and contrast. This helps high-end displays deliver deeper color saturation and more accurate highlights. The company also launched Authentic Motion. A shot-by-shot motion control tool designed to eliminate judder without causing the artificial look often referred to as the “soap opera effect.” Dolby says this feature brings a more cinematic feel, even during fast-moving scenes.

Industry Adoption Grows as Dolby Vision 2 Targets Both High-End and Mainstream Displays

CANAL+, the French entertainment giant, has announced its support for Dolby Vision 2. Committing to release new movies, TV shows, and sports content in the updated format. This move could accelerate global adoption by offering more native Dolby Vision 2 media for consumers. Hisense will be the first TV manufacturer to integrate Dolby Vision 2 into its upcoming RGB-MiniLED TV lineup. Powered by the MediaTek Pentonic 800 chipset and MiraVision Pro picture engine.

Dolby Vision 2 will come in two versions. Dolby Vision 2 Max targets high-performance TVs with premium display capabilities, offering the most advanced features. While the standard Dolby Vision 2 brings core enhancements to mainstream models. Both versions rely on the new Dolby Image Engine, which works in tandem with Content Intelligence to deliver optimized image quality.

Although Dolby has yet to confirm whether current OLED or MiniLED TVs will receive firmware updates to support the new standard, more details are expected later this year. The company has positioned Dolby Vision 2 not just as an incremental update, but as a transformative upgrade aimed at addressing previous HDR limitations. With smarter processing and wider industry backing, Dolby Vision 2 could redefine how viewers experience visual content across all screen types.
