The device connects to compatible computers via Thunderbolt 5, which supports PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds. Gigabyte claims that this connection lags only about 5% behind a desktop GPU running on a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot. While Thunderbolt 5 is still emerging and primarily found on high-end laptops and mini PCs. The Aorus AI Box also supports USB4 backwards compatibility. This feature allows broader device support and the ability to offload gaming or rendering tasks using Nvidia’s Project G-Assist technology. This lets the eGPU work alongside the laptop’s internal GPU for improved performance.
Though the RTX 5060 Ti AI Box will likely cost more than a standalone desktop GPU retailing around $460. It offers portability and convenience without sacrificing much speed. The inclusion of a desktop-grade GPU with advanced cooling and expanded VRAM should appeal to gamers and professionals needing extra graphics power on compact systems.
Docking Station Features and Design Make the AI Box a Versatile Accessory
Beyond its eGPU capabilities, the Aorus RTX 5060 Ti AI Box doubles as a docking station, providing added functionality for connected devices. It includes three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports. Each supporting 10 Gbps data transfer and Power Delivery 3.0 for charging peripherals. An Ethernet network card also comes built-in. Offering wired internet connectivity for laptops or mini PCs that lack a dedicated port.
The AI Box features customizable RGB lighting on both its exterior Aorus logo and internal components. Adding a stylish touch for gaming setups. Despite housing a powerful GPU and cooling system. The device remains relatively compact and portable, measuring 117 x 243 x 45 mm. This smaller form factor makes it easier to carry or fit alongside existing workstation equipment compared to larger external GPU enclosures.
